Who We Are
We are a small company that is locally owned in Hagerstown, Maryland. We have served our local community over the last 28 + years. Throughout that time, we have provided services and built relationships along the way.
We believe that providing a service isn’t just enough, but by building partnerships, we not only manage waste solutions for the now but for future generations.
Our History
1980's
Before the company was legally formed, the founder provided services with a pickup truck. He went to each customer’s location and gathered trash and recyclable materials.
After collection, the recycling materials were sorted from the rest of the trash.
The recycling materials then was stored in an old farmer’s barn until enough materials were taken to the mill.
1994
On March 31, 1994, the founder filed the trade name of Hagerstown Recycling & Trucking with the state of Maryland. By this time, the business had an established warehouse, three employees, and multiple trucks.
1996
In 1996 the first garbage truck was custom-built. The sole purpose of the new truck was to expand the collection of cardboard and paper waste.
2000
The company started to provide traditional waste services. However, by this time, the market was heavy in competition.
2022
On October 6, 2022, the founder passed away. His death was three weeks after the passing of his wife.
On October 8, 2022, his oldest son took over the business.
December 12, 2022, the company became incorporated.
December 22, 2022, The company filed the HRT Waste Services trade name with the State of Maryland. The company filed the trade name to aid with marketing the waste services.
2023
After several months of marketing a dual-branded company, the company used a better-suited name to sell the recycling and waste services. Having a dual-branded company caused more confusion and increased operating costs.
When deciding what name to use and how to rename the company without going away from the founded name, HRT Recycling & Waste Services came about. Since the original name has been around for some time, it didn’t feel right to dissolve the name the founder created long ago.
On July 14, 2023, HRT Recycling & Waste Services was born. Since the name was only being added as a trade name and not as a legal entity, the original name of Hagerstown Recycling & Trucking lives on behind the scenes.
As for the public, HRT Recycling & Waste Services will be known as their waste provider.
