Recycling Guidelines

Thank you for choosing HRT Recycling & Waste Services for your waste collection and recycling needs. Please follow these simple guidelines when preparing your material for collection.

We use a single-stream recycling process for efficiency and sustainability. A single-stream recycling process is where all the recycling material is placed together during collection and transportation.

Plastic Recycling

Plastics one through seven is currently being accepted. Every plastic container will have a recycling icon with a number in the center on the bottom. Those numbers go from one to seven.

We will not take any plastic containers that had chemicals stored in them. Please discard those containers.

We do not accept plastic wrap or plastic bags. If you have a local Food Lion or Walmart, they may have receptacles for you to dispose of this material for recycling.

Plastics one through seven must be washed out and cleaned before recycling. Any food and other contaminates will cause the material to be rejected by the recycling process facilities.

Aluminum

We take all types of aluminum. Is it aluminum or not? If you have a magnet handy, aluminum will not stick to the magnet.

Aluminum cans do not have to be rinsed out. However, a few-second rinse will do the trick if you want to keep bees and ants away.

Scrap Metal

We take all metal types, including pots, pans, and small appliances. Empty food cans can be recycled as well. Again please rinse these items out before placing them in your container for recycling. Any contaminated item will have to be placed in the trash and not continue to be recycled.

If you have a large piece of scrap metal that will not fit into your recycling container, please call us to schedule a pickup.

Cardboard and Paper

Cardboard, all paper types, magazines, newspapers, cereal boxes, non-waxed cardboard cartons, and wrapping paper are acceptable recycling materials. Please break down your boxes when possible. This helps to keep efficiency while on the route.

How to tell if something can be recycled?

A good rule when it comes to cardboard or paper items is that if you can tear them, they can be recycled. Any cardboard with a wax coating can not be recycled. If you have any questions about recycling items, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Reminder: Do not mix trash with recyclable items. When the garbage is mixed with recycling, it becomes contaminated and has to be thrown away. Please help us to keep your recycling materials from going to the landfill.
